Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server are different. The server version has no GUI and uses a different kernel that has been tweaked for server type functions. Like anything, its not easy at first but its really neat and fun stuff to learn.

Because of that I have started to explore ways to enable Hyper-V enhanced session or RDP type of connectivity for my Ubuntu Server virtual machine (the latter was on my to do list in any case).
